Social Justice and the Federal Election
Voting Day: April 28, 2025

As people of faith, we all have a responsibility to be informed when it comes time to vote. We can look at platforms through a social justice lens, we can encourage our parishes and congregations to attend all candidates’ meetings, to learn more about the key issues and why this election is so important to Canada’s future.
ECULINKS Etobicoke has prepared announcements for four Sundays that you might want to use in any print materials, on your website, or in other ways. Please use the prepared announcements, that follow, as you can, on the dates indicated.

We find the following federal election resources to be useful documents and include the links here for you.

  • Think through our concerns and priorities in this upcoming election, in the context of our Christian faith and values.

    Fair-Trade and Economic Justice

Faith communities have a long history of advocacy and action in favour of the social
well-being of all God’s people. At the heart of economic justice concerns are issues
around how we act with others as faithful stewards in the sharing of God’s resources—
providing food, clothing, shelter, transportation, health, education and culture. As we all
prepare to be faithfully-informed in our federal election, let’s think about the importance
of fair-trade practices that support justice by ensuring income for Canadian farmers and
manufacturers and meets environmental standards as well.

Palm Sunday – A Call to Social Justice

Many Christians consider Palm Sunday a call to justice, when we focus on the contrast
between God’s Kingdom and the powers of the world, a time to reflect on social,
economic and ecological issues, and the gospel mission of the church of justice and
mercy. You can make a difference.

Easter Resurrection – Renewal and Call to Action

For all Christians, Easter is a time to focus on resurrection and joy. We celebrate hope
of new life, and renewal of faith, that is reflected in community engagement, fairness
and equality. We are charged with working toward a world where everyone can live with
dignity and justice by advocating for those who are marginalized and oppressed and for
protection of God’s earth along with ensuring right relations with our Indigenous
peoples. You can make a difference.

    Social Justice and Building Community

The challenge of social justice is to evoke a sense of community that will lead to
addressing issues and contributing to change through shared values of faith, service,
spiritual nourishment and recognition of each other’s gifts and contributions. It is our
faith journey that offers a model of renewal, a life of accomplishment, celebration and
meaning. As we all prepare to vote in tomorrow’s federal election, let’s think about that
vote through our faith journey or our Christian values as we choose the future for our
    country.
We are called to do justice. Make your voice heard when you vote.
